I have a large potted twisted stem bay tree that is three years old.
I would love to keep it in its original ball shape - but it seems as though overnight - it has grown inches! It also has a lot of buds on. Should I wait until after it flowers? I think we have done with the frosts in this part of the world. Any other advise on my beloved tree would be gratefully received.
When should I prune my lovely twisted Bay Tree?
The rule of thumb is if it blooms in the spring, wait until after the bloom is over. If you prune now, you will prune off all the blooms. I don't think you want that. When you do prune, be sure to cut off all any dead areas, crossed branches-choose the weakest one or one that ruins the shape to prune. The link below will give you much more info on pruning.
