Deadheading?

What exactly do I pinch off of a primrose when I deadhead? Do I just pinch the part where the flower was? Do I pinch the green stuff that is left after the flower has died?

-OR- Do I pinch off the whole thing back to the plant?

Deadheading?
Deadheading is just removing the dead flower to make room for fresh flower buds to come through. It also rejuvenates the plants and stops the plant from going to seed.
Reply:My mother told me when you deadhead a plant, you just take off the bloom. Actually she said a little more than that, but that's all I caught.
Reply:Pinching off just the flower part should be good enough. The stem will die back pretty quickly.
Reply:Deadhead at the receptacle of the primrose, this is where the plant meets the flower stalk. Make sure you don't leave any of the ovary of the flower on the plant, as nutrients will go towards this growth, and not towards new flowers on your primrose. If you save seeds deadheading is a great way to add to your collection of seeds. The only time you might not want to deadhead a plant would be in the case of a rose, for leaving the flower on long after its bloom has left will most likely gain you a rosehip, which are high in vitamin c.
