Very new beginner, help would be much appreciated.?

I am trying to landscape some property, and I need to know what sort of bush or shrub grows about 1-1 1/2 feet tall and flowers. I have no idea what the zone is (hence the "really new" part) but the property is in eastern Georgia. The area will get sunlight all day, and will ideally require little maintenance.

Very new beginner, help would be much appreciated.?
You are in zone 8. Lots of kinds of bushes and shrubs. Your local nursery can help. Here's a website for you that has a huge selection with pics: http://www.naturehills.com/new/product/b...
Reply:A great plant for you would be a sarracocoa. It flowers in the winter and spring, and has a fantastic, almost jasmine like scent. it will stay fairly managable, and will give great structure to any landscape. shade or partial sun will be proper for this. good luck
Reply:shurb roses would be nice, need no maintance and grow nearly 3 ft tall and give beautiful scent, color most of the growing season.
Reply:Butterfly bushes are very nice and, or course, attract butterflies...peonies are very colorful, and even when the flowers aren't blooming, the leaves are still pretty...bleeding hearts are also very nice and easy to take care of.
Reply:I know that butterfly bush gets pretty tall, much taller than 1-1 1/2 feet, that's for sure.

I'm not sure about the zones either but if you want flowers I would try Hebe or MExican Orange (Choisya), Cistus Rockrose. maybe Skimmia...
Reply:What about Azaleas or Hydrangeas? Both flower impressively and require little maintenance.
Reply:Hebe is a good choice. There are so many different kinds with lots of different color flowers. It is evergreen and doesn't require much maintenance. Osmanthus is good, too. (Also evergreen) Very fragrant and little care. You just need to shape it once a year, perhaps, if you don't want them to be too tall.
Reply:You are zone 8. You can try a dwarf red hardy azalea, Raspberry Ice Bougainvillea. Iwould also purchase some daylillies and re-blooming dwarf daylillies such as stell d'oro. The daylily is the easiest flower to grow--looks beautiful with absolutely no maintenance and takes abuse and can be planted in any type of soil. Great for a beginner. They are for beginner gardeners--those who can kill even fake flowers. Remember to plant all your plants no deeper than the pot it is planted in and also make sure you fertilize once every 2 wks. Also when a flower dies, cut it off so that others will start growing.
