Herbs for butterflies?

I have many butterflies that come to my garden each year and would like to know what herbs you have planted for them to lay their eggs on. Do you usually plant the herbs in your flower garden or do you plant them in your vegetable gardens (I have room in both)? We have Swallowtails and Monarchs for the most part, but many more species I don't know the names of.

Herbs for butterflies?
There are a number of different things you can plant. To first attract the butterflies to your garden, plant anise hyssop, sages, coneflower, summer savory, hyssop, thyme, lavender, mints, bee balm, basil, oregano, rosemary, or nasturium. These flowers have lots of nectar in their flowers. Also, have herbs nearby for egg-laying. Parsley and celery are great. Another (while not an herb) is flowering milkweed. This is different from the milkweeds that grow as weeds, but still a great food source for the butterflies and has pretty orange, red, or pink flowers. You can find them in seed catalogs as Asclepias.
Reply:I plant parsley for the swallowtail butterfly caterpillars to eat. They love it - chew it to the ground sometimes. The plants survive usually, even over the winter in zone 5/6. I plant it in the flower garden as well as in the vegetable garden. They find it everywhere, even in a pot on the deck.
Reply:Monarchs like milkweed, which is not an herb, but it is a wonderful plant. The flowers smell like honey.
