My psycho neighbor is setting a trap for my cat.?

My 2 year old spayed cat loves to spend a couple of hours outside in the evenings running around and catching the occasional mouse.my neighbor across the street claims my cat is digging up his garden. The odd part of this is I have flower gardens all over my yard and she's never harmed any of them.He got the animal shelter to bring him a trap and he's set it so it's pratically in the alley behind his house and not in his garden. He baited it with sardines, and what cat wont be attracted to that?We try to keep Ginger in,but with kids constantly in and out of the house she manages to escape.I'm so afraid she'll get caught in the trap and dehydrate in this heat before anyone does anything. What can I do?There's no talking to this guy.

My psycho neighbor is setting a trap for my cat.?
If you can see the trap from your house or get access to it without going into his yard, you can also get your cat back out of the trap. Make sure your cat has a collar on.

Contact the animal shelter and let them know that he's not set it in his yard as well... they may want to know that. You never know what he's told them in order to let him use the trap...
Reply:PLEASE...JUST KEEP YOUR CAT INSIDE. I had to learn the hard way...my crazy neighbor trapped my cats that I had for 10 years..I am heart broken...he wont tell me where they are and ther police are on his side telling me it is fine for him to trap cats and I can't do anything about it. Report Abuse
Reply:I'd call the poilce and report it immediately. If he kills your cat, you could sue or even worse. It happened to one of my neighbors. This person killed her dog because the person though it was going to attack him, when the dog was only barking. She called the police, and she won. If I were you, I'd give the guy a piece of my mine!
Reply:Wow! Sounds like you already tried talking to him. I'd call the animal department, and then if that doesn't work, the police. You should look closely on your cat's hands for dirt and claw marks to prove that your cat is not, in fact, digging up the neighbor's garden.

There's some way to prove it, so just maintain innocence. This may be cruel to the cat, but until problems are over, you may want to lock it in a room or keep a gate up...

Come to think of it: Keep a gate between the doorway/entry room. Cats can jump over things, but well the human is STEPPING over it, they will notice the cat quickly and the cat can't jump as fast.

During the busiest hours of the day, I'd lock the cat in a room with a litter box. They enjoy prowling around new places - just make sure there's nothing breakable in the room.
Reply:Go over to your neighbor's house and deliberatly destroy the trap gets your cat....Hurry Ginger's life depends on it!
Reply:Your neighbor sounds like an a**hole, but if you get the police involved, you could get in trouble too. The same leash laws that are in effect for dogs, now also apply to cats. They could confiscate your cat if it is running off of your property. Keep her indoors.
Reply:Hide the trap.
Reply:I truly understand what you are going through, as I also had a neighbor that did the same thing and our animal shelter set the trap and told me that I had to keep my cats out of his yard or they would take them. I lost some of my cats, and he started having mice in his home, so now he leaves the cats alone. Hope you don't loose your cat though. Try to keep a good eye on the cat and the trap.
Reply:when he is not at home go over there and disengage the tape in a way that it appears to be in working order, so your cat wont get caught in it, but can still enter and leave. also try talking to him, to see if you can resolve the issue without the need of trap

there also could be a rabbit in your neighbor hood but your cat is an easy target to blame, ask for proof that it is in fact your cat and not a wild animal, "words are cheap, but video proof is damning."
Reply:call the police
Reply:I say call the animal shelter and tell them. i don't think it is ok for him to do this, and Ginger could get hurt by him. that isn't fair to any cat to bait it with sardines. i say call the police or something... check it out and see if it is illegal or somethin, and i hope Ginger is ok, and your neighbor comes to his senses. he seems like a crazy old man.
Reply:call the police
Reply:build a nice fenced in area for your cat with a roof..they even sell cat cages for the outside. it is hard to get a cat inside once they have a taste of the outside. its too bad..but all you can do is control your cat..not your neighbor...I have had neibors like this before and have wanted to do some mean things to them ...but ya know.....lol
Reply:Your cat probably is digging up his yard, but big deal. He will probably catch some feral cats and some raccoons before he catches your cat. Cats are cats. He probably has 25 wandering feral cats in his yard at night that he doesn't know about and he's blaming the cat he sees. Let me guess-- he is unemployed or retired. People with lives don't have time to do this sort of thing and that guy needs a better hobby. Maybe he has something you could call Code Enforcement about and get him stewing about something else.
Reply:wow wat a idiot of a neighbor, its more and like rabbits or something doing it, I would call the police and aske them wat can u do. and call the animal shelter and let them know he is using the trap to catch a cat they might think he tryin to get rabbits or chipmunks. and if ur cat gets out i would check all the time over there to be safe he didnt get caught
Reply:Maybe just keep the cat in your back yard. Put a fence or something so that she will only play in your yard. Or warn the kids to be careful not to let the cat out and be sure to tell you if she does get out.
Reply:Call the police or the Concervation officer. Tell them what has been goin on try to make him remove the trap trapping cats is illegal i think?! My cousin had a crazy neighbor like that only one day their dog escaped got into his yard and they poisoned the dog, it died 2 days later the vet tried everything he could! The never pressed formal charges on the neighbor!
Reply:Keep your filthy cat in your house.
Reply:well if he catches it he is going to have to return it. if it dies he can get in trouble. i would go over there and de bate the trap try these things

Scatter pinecones in the areas the cats like to visit, especially under bushes. Ponderosa or other prickly cones work best.

-- Buy a commercial cat repellent and scatter or spray it in the places

-- Sprinkle heavy coats of pepper in those areas

2) Install "Cat Fence In" on top of your fence. It is speciallly designed barrier that "keeps your cat in your fenced in yard and stray cats out." The toll-free number is: 1-888-738-9099. Website: www.catfencein.com
Reply:Well a lot of times cats will not potty where they think home is. It's possible you cat is doing her duty in their garden. Out of experience it is gross when you are gardening and find cat poop. It is really stinky and can kill your flowers. I would try very hard to keep your cat in. If you have to put her in a cage inside the house when the kids are running in and out. Good Luck!
Reply:steal the trap and bury it somewere were it can't be found and if he asked you were it went just say i don'r know. be prepared to have a witness to back up your story.
Reply:put up a gate in ur yard so ur cat can stay in the gate but still be outside
Reply:If you don't want to start a war w/ the neighbor try to check on the cat or the cage frequently to make sure its not trapped. Or if you like disable the cage or just take the sardines, eventually he'll get tired of replacing them.. Be care ful though I neighbor shot my husband's cat with a bb gun and killed in for getting on his new car. the police would do nothing we have no animal cruelty laws here in MD. Check your local authorities for laws
Reply:Set a trap for your neighbor. Place a can of his favorite brew inside the trap to bait him. Once caught feel free to poke him with a stick a couple of times just for fun. Then turn him over to your local asylum. There may even be a cash reward for this fella.
Reply:Well, u could call the local SPCA and talk to them about it. That is so sad that he is trying to catch ur beloved cat. U also might want to keep looking at the trap ( if u know where it is) to make sure that ur cat didnt accidentaly get trapped in it.

I feel u pain and i hope ur cat doesnt get hurt or captured.

Hope this helps!*=)
Reply:I would try my best to be a good neighbor %26amp; keep the cat inside
Reply:Call the police.

Even if what your psycho neighbour is doing isn't a crime, the police will still have to respond to your call and that will mean they will have to go and speak to your nieghbour, and he will have to listen to them.

They might even confiscate the trap if you're lucky.

Be warned though, setting the police on him might only make him even more determined, but on the other hand it might mellow him a little.
Reply:Most vets recommend keeping a domestic cat indoors, anyway.

Try your best to restrict the cat, so that it learns to stay indoors.
