My god isnt the flower in the attic the best books ever?
I am amused to read that " Flowers in The Attic " and other books in the series by Victoria Andrews are still around . My daughter , then aged about 14 , took Flowers in The Attic to boarding school . At half term I was summoned to the house mistress's study ; she told me that this wasn't a suitable book for young girls to be reading and please to take it home . Then in my early forty's , I did take it home and read it myself . The forbidden is always exciting , for older people as well as the young . I believe I suffered from dyslexia as a child and was slow to read ; an exciting book gets you going . My daughter also suffered slightly from dyslexia . You cannot shield children from facts of life for ever ; if an incestuous relationship between brother and sister , while they are imprisoned in the attic , encourages a young person to read , I'm all for it .
I wrapped the book securely in a brown paper cover and gave it back to my daughter . Subsequently I bought her the whole series and read several of them after her .
In my opinion , Victoria Andrews books , though a good read were a little disjointed ; in the sense that each chapter was a story in itself and not a smooth follow on of the story from the preceeding chapter .
Sadly , we live in an age when young people and older , just watch television and no longer enjoy reading a good book . Read all you can ; some wonderful books have been written over the centuries and one good read leads to another . There's nothing like curling up with a good book and losing yourself in the story . Well Done !!! Enjoy yourself !!! Cry Buckets Full !!!
Reply:a good read? yes
best book ever? no
Reply:I'm not going to say that it's the best book ever, but it was a good series. Continue reading, you won't be disappointed!
Reply:I love the books too! Please don't watch the film of The Flowers in the Attic - its AWFUL!
Reply:brill books, she is a great author, i remember my mum reading those about twenty years ago
Reply:My word, it's about 20 years since I read those books Might read them again now!
Reply:Oh yeh, just love reading about child abuse and incest and mothers who think money is more important than their children...
Reply:Actually Garden of Shadows goes first it's a prequel. I have read every VC Andrews book %26amp; still like Flowers in the Attic best. Have you been to the library about the rest of the series? if they don't have it they can usually request a loan from another library.
Reply:Fantastic series of books i have to say, and firm favourites that are always on my shelf Ive read them so many times but sadly to say not recently, i first read them when i was about 15-16 and tracked the whole set down at a car boot for about a tenner where was e-bay when i needed it lol.
Reply:Well I have to agree its a brilliant book but I was not as impressed with the follow ups as most people. But only you can decide wether its worth continuing or not. Have fun reading them though if you do : )
Reply:Wow talk about taking me back in time. Its probably been 20+ years since I read that series. VC Andrews is a fabulous story teller. all of her books (series) are fantastic.
Glad your enjoying them. I could tell you what happens, but then you wouldnt have to read the books. So enjoy!
Reply:V.C. Andrews series of books were spectacular. The best book is always the choice of the reader. There is no one best book ever.
Reply:I remember reading these books many years ago and thoroughly enjoying them. I won't spoil it for you by telling you what happens with Cathy in Petals In the Wind but I will say read them all, they are all as good as the original Flowers In the Attic. You should be able to borrow the ones you don't have from your library or even buy them second hand from charity shops, enjoy.
Reply:OMG I KNOW!!!
i have read almost all of them sooo far and it is sooo awsome altho their mom needs to burn in hell but soo far they are the best books i have ever read in my whooole life!!!
V.C. Andrews ROX!!!
MUAH*
Reply:I've read the whole saga years ago. You're asking for spoilers but I don't do that. I hate ruining books for others. It's best to enjoy it while always wondering.
When you get done with the "Flowers" series, read "My Sweet Audrina." If "Petals" puts you in tears, "Audrina" will surely make you bawl.
Reply:I've read them all too, couldn't put them down once I picked them up!! absolutely fantastic!! They sell the books on ebay
Reply:Sorry no it isn't.
