Is it normal for potatoes to take almost 2 months to flower or does this mean something is wrong?
nothing wrong with em,,,usually takes bout 90 days for red potatos to make new potatos,,, they have to grow a little longer in order to get mature,, white potatos takes bout 120 days to do the same thing,,,,,you should be able to pull a little dirt away from the one with flowers,,and see how big they are now,,,if they bout size of ping pong ball,,,you can pull a few and boil em,,,,,,, if not,,then pull dirt back around em and wait couple more weeks,,,,,,,,these are called new potatos,,,,
Reply:Should be fine. Potatoes take a long time to grow. Next year, or this Fall, put some lime into the soil after you harvest the crop. I would say around August you will probably be able to get some new potatoes or wait until the end of September for mature potatoes. I've actually grown potatoes from a bag of potatoes I bought at the store that grew eyes. As long as the seed potatoes had eyes, you should be all set.
Reply:You should see the blossoms coming on soon. Depending on the area in which you live, it can determine on how the plants grow and produce. Keep them fed and watered if not much rain.
You might look it up on the net to see what the experts are saying for proper growth in your area and what type of potatoes require what type of maintainance is needed. It just could be the type of patato that you have is what type of blooming time when they can produce.
Be patient, ask questions on the web to make sure they are being fertilized properly and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Reply:Or you could dig up a few new potatoes and enjoy those now!
