Then on another movie I was wathing a guy brought a bundel of flowers for 5,000 yen and me and m nephew held our mouth open think this guy bought like 40 flowers for 5,000 dollars!! I know yen has to be super low and I even went online at google where I found a converter but I still dont uderstand exactly how to convert it. It might be that I am dumb when it comes to stuff like this but please somebody explaine to me exactly how t break it down. ^_^

How do I convert Yen into American money?
I totally understand how you and your nephew felt. It is funny how you perceive things depending on the situation. You can always find the exact exchange rate from www.xe.com, but as a basic rule of thumb, you can simply, when converting Yen into $, is to knock two zeros of the number, and you will have a basic idea of how much the yen is in $. When I first came to Japan, I was using 100 yen coins like quarters. The 100yen coin, or all intents and purposes, would be considered $1.00. You could buy a can of pop for 100yen, play an arcade game for 100yen, etc.

So, to use your example, 70,000 yen is only $700.00 and 5000yen is only $50.00.

Hope that help.
Reply:what you need is a currency converter!

just do as it says. enter in the amount of yen or USD and press convert, and the number shown should be inflation adjusted and correct.
Reply:?It's easy! You can use all the ways that everyone has already mentioned:

*??.·*′ˉ` ?BUT! Keep in mind that in reality, if you really exchange your yen to dollar, you DON'T get the rate listed on the conversion page! Ahhhh ha!

Yes, it's true.(*^o^*) The bank or exchange place will charge you a service charge to actually exchange your yen to dollar. (1% to 3%) That rate will depend on if you choose travelers checks or dolllars.

For example, I exchanged yen for $3,000. today and they charged me an extra 3,000 yen for the transaction. (Ouch!\^?^)/)

The rate will vary everyday, from hour to hour, minute to minute when the markets are open. So you must check often.

Hope I haven't confused you more!?

~I exchange yen to dollar a few times a month, at first I was confused too!(*^o^*)
Reply:1 Japanese yen = 0.008113 U.S. dollars

So, 50,000 X .008113 = 40.56 USD
Reply:The best currency converter out there is at http://www.xe.com/ucc and you can convert yen to US$ with up to the minute values.
Reply:One US dollar ($1) is equal to approximately 125 Yen. This rate varies depending on world economics.

So, to convert from yen to dollars, divide the amount in yen by 125.

So, the girl who won 70,000 yen won $560, and the 5000 yen flowers were about $40.

For up to date exchange rates and currency calculators, you can check out web sites like http://www.xe.com/ucc/
Reply:The quickest way to convert with Google is just to type "70000 yen in dollars" into the Google search box!
Reply:Go to xe.com . They have a currency calculator there. The rate changes daily.
Reply:It's been around 123 yen to $1 , so just take 2 zero's off the yen

for example 50,000 yen= $500 as a rough estimate.
