I have a strip of grass I'd like to turn into a flower bed. Should I strip off the turf first, or just dig it all over with a rotavator, and then add compost or top soil? What do I do?
How do I turn part of my lawn into a flowerbed?
strip the top two inches off dispose of that preferably compost the sods, feed the soil with soil conditioner any organic material that is well rotted, even well rotted manure or compost.Check which plants you are putting in, acidity etc if you don't have a rotavator a garden fork will do make sure the ground is soaked the day before, dry ground is harder to dig best of luck
Reply:turn it all over and make shure the leaves are facing down so you cant see them. leave it a few weeks and keep it damp. it will rot down and then you can rotavate and plant
Reply:Strip off the top layer off turf first of all. If the soil is compacted then use a rotavator.
Reply:Dig the grass up first.
Reply:get rid of the grass first then dig and add compost etc
