Some of the flowers, the leaves are still standing tall, but what about the ones that are laying on the ground? Pull those out?
Or, if anyone has a good website that would help, that'd be great too!
Thanks!!
Help with weeding and gardening our new house....?
You can cut the dead ones off ,but leave the ones still standing they are still growing {bulbs under the ground}
Reply:They say that you should not cut down the tulip and daffodil stalks, but I always do and they always come back. It has to do with energy conservation for the following spring. Another thing I tried once was to fold the stalks over and rubber band them so they wouldn't look so terrible. You could then try to hide them by planting annuals in front of them.
I was planning on cutting mine back this weekend. I usually wait until they are really bad looking before doing so. I cut them about 1/2 inch from the ground. I may leave them a little taller though because I want to plant more bulbs in the fall and I want to be able to see where I should be planting them.
I've been wondering if there are any spring flowering bulbs that can be planted before fall but I haven't had much luck.
Good luck with your new house - try not to let things overwhelm you. We're in a new house and there is so much to do. Last year, we even transplanted the plants in the one flower bed to other beds and seeded it with grass seed. There were just too many flower beds to deal with. That would be fine if I was retired, but there is just no time when you work full time to be fiddling around with this stuff.
And, we always try to plant as many perennials as possible - to keep things low maintenance :-)
