There is a square of 4cm length. And there are 4 semi circles in the square and they overlap so it looks like a flower. What is the area of the overlap (gray part)? Plz explain so that a grade 10 student can understand it lol...

If I read you correctly the figure ends up with four semi-circles inside a square with 4 shaded slivers.
By observation, and knowing that each side of the square is length 4, you can see that each semi circle has a radius of 2.
The area of the square is 4*4 = 16
Area of each semicircle is (1/2)(pi)r^2 = 2pi
Now add the four areas of the semi-circles. Added together, they equal the area of the square plus 4 areas of slivers.
Subtract the area of the square and form the total area of the semi-circles and you are left with the area of the shaded areas.
