What can I do to get rid of weeds in my garden??
There is a amterial called PREEN. Purchase it at any lawn %26amp; garden store. You put it down and water it in and it keeps the weed seeds from growing. I used it on my vegetable garden last year.Worked great.
Reply:Put down a sheet of barrier where you do not want weeds. you can buy these at your garden store or online. I haven't used these but they should be a good long term solution. Products like preen are pre-emergent weed preventers and work but must be applied periodically. I just mulch in late spring and use preen every couple of months. I still pull some weeds but it is very manageable.
Reply:Get husband to help you.
Reply:You can spray roundup on the grass before you plant. Then I would plant and put out mulch around the flowers. If you see weeds starting to grow don't let them get any larger than an inch and let them have it with the good old hoe. I wouldn't try and spray roundup around the plants but some people that are a good shot do. I like to use the hoe.
Reply:now is when you go after the weeds because:1.weeds germinate in the cool spring.that's really where your problem starts.so want to treat it early.2.cultivate your soil and pull out any roots from last year, while cultivating adding preen weed control to the soil will help.3.now put down a good barrier.with those u get what u pay for.if you're gonna plant at spaces about 12 to 18 inches across leave a 4 inch diamiter base,no bigger.mark only the spots on the barrier were u intend to drop a plant.the whole thing about barriers is that people often puncture them doing their summer gardening.so remember its there.4.after you plant, use a good 2 or3 inch layer of mulch throughout the flower area.5.you might also want to seal off the edge of your flower bed with a good solid border.i recommend using 4x4inch landscape timbers because they are pressure treated.(chemically non toxic lumber)and will withstand rot or mildew for years.they are a 8 feet long so u can cut them to form.remember to tuck the barrier plastic under the lumber for a tight seal.you can even spray(carefully)with weed be gone or any weed killer around the outside edge to prevent weeds from growing from underneath.with all this extra effort done early you should breeze through the summer(no pun) with just normal maintenance.
Reply:Plat your flowering plants a little closer together. Weeds grow in sunshine and water; and they will struggle under cover. Try some thick mulch too.
